New show home and street scenes bring Welborne’s landscape-led plans into view

New show homes and recently opened street scenes have given visitors a fuller view of Welborne, the new generation sustainable garden village in Hampshire. At Autumn Unveiled in late September, visitors explored the homes, streets and community orchard, seeing how the landscape and buildings are knitting together.

The event brought a new point of interest for prospective residents and a tangible change for Welborne as the homes and green spaces widen out into a sense of neighbourhood. The orchard is a focal part of that picture. Set amongst the emerging homes and paths, it brings another shared landscaped feature close to daily life.

It is a further realisation of the vision of Welborne’s Landscape Architect Kim Wilkie CBE. At the event, he delivered a talk about his approach and the inspirations that have guided him through the years of considered design, which include dedicating over 50% of Welborne to publicly accessible green space. The impact of Kim’s work is already felt by the residents and by those from further afield who come to simply enjoy the surrounding landscape.

Kim Wilkie CBE, Welborne’s Landscape Architect, said: “Creating a sense of openness and closeness to nature has underpinned our vision for Welborne. It will provide greater opportunities for exercise, contemplation and socialising, encouraging healthier lifestyles and calmer heads. The community orchard is an integral part of this approach.”

Welborne’s town houses bring a distinctive sense of style to a setting shaped by nature. CG Fry & Son’s new town house show home, The Avon, sits beside the orchard and overlooks Welborne Park. Its show home interior, designed by the Welborne team in collaboration with Town Architectural Designer Ben Pentreath OBE, pairs traditional English character with colour, pattern and a fresh, modern feel.

Thakeham’s The Grosvenor offers a similar take on town house living. Its light, airy design draws the outdoors in, with natural light filling the open-plan kitchen and family area, and is just a hop, skip and a jump away from Welborne Park and the children’s playground. The show home has already sold, with its interior design prompting a visitor to make an immediate decision to buy.

Outside, the new street scenes provide the connection between individual homes and the larger place. In keeping with the Design Code set by Ben Pentreath, the streets feature different house styles and sizes, and interconnect to create a strong sense of community and place, including ease of access to nearby amenities.

The recently opened Audley apartments demonstrate how Welborne is catering for different stages of life. Alongside the larger family town houses, the spacious two-bedroom apartments by Pye Homes Blenheim provide an option for those looking to downsize while remaining at the heart of village life and close to green spaces.

The show homes and Welborne’s Welcome Centre are open seven days a week and the green spaces, such as the community orchard, are open to visitors as well as residents.
