North Hill Junction upgrade: PHASE 2

September 2026, Start of Phase 2 works at North Hill / Wickham Road
Phase 1 works have now reached their final stages and we move on to the next phase of works we are undertaking to improve the flow of traffic at North Hill and Wickham Road junction. A plan indicating the area of works for Phase 2 can be viewed here.
Phase 2 works began on 17th September following the closure of the previous off-slip from the M27 and the completion of the new Junction 10 extension and slip roads.
The works will include the construction of a dedicated bus lane on the northbound A32 under the M27 which will connect passengers to Welborne, with priority at the North Hill junction. New cycle and pedestrian routes on either side of the road will enable further connectivity for walkers and cyclists increasing sustainable transport options. A letter with information on the Phase 2 works is being sent to residents and business within 0.5mile radius of North Hill. A copy of the letter can be viewed here.
We are working towards completing the North Hill Phase 2 works by early Spring 2027. During this period some traffic management measures will be in place on the A32 Wickham Road dual carriageway, including narrowed lanes and some lane closures. A pedestrian and cycle route will be maintained throughout the Phase 2 works and will be managed on the existing footpath to the north of the motorway bridge. As the cycle and pedestrian path is widened, this route will switch to a fenced and coned-off section on the carriageway.

Project Overview
The upgrade will change the existing roundabout arrangement into a signalised junction with traffic lights. There will be a new dedicated bus lane, and new signalised pedestrian and cycle crossing points have been designed across the new layout to enable safe crossing points east-west and north-south.
