landscape and clearance works -Knowle Road and Burnsall Street
Central to the placemaking vision for Welborne is the creation and development of an extensive network of green space, underscoring our commitment to support biodiversity and connecting residents, visitors and surrounding local communities to nature. Alongside, Welborne will deliver beautifully crafted homes, a thriving village centre with amenities from the first phase and create thousands of new jobs, driving local economic and social creation.
All planned vegetation removal works along Knowle Road and Burnsall Street have been carefully assessed and are being conducted in full compliance with relevant legislation, planning consent and regulatory guidance. The necessary surveys and checks have been undertaken to ensure that protected species and habitats are identified and protected. A comprehensive ecological impact assessment, which included detailed habitat mapping and surveys, has been conducted to identify impacts and mitigation measures.
The removal of unmanaged vegetation was approved in the original outline planning application for Welborne and is needed now as part of the enabling works which are essential in delivering the first phase of Welborne’s development.
In line with applicable legislation and guidance from Natural England, these enabling works will:
Be scheduled to avoid key periods for nesting birds and other wildlife
Obtain a European Protected Species Licence in relation to hazel dormice and will implement a site-wide mitigation strategy to ensure habitats are replaced
Safely relocate reptiles to suitable retained habitats
Offset habitat loss with over 7200m2 habitat replacement of new native tree and shrub planting
The replacement planting will create new homes for wildlife and has been planned as part of Welborne’s Biodiversity Enhancement Strategy. Over 4,500 trees, many of which are semi and super semi-mature, have already been planted as part of our commitment to enhancing the local environment. Residents and the wider community will have access to larger, better integrated and quality designed green spaces such as the Welborne Mile, Dashwood, Welborne Park and Fareham Common.
We remain committed to engaging openly, in particular through the local community forums. Welborne is happy to provide further details of the legal and environmental assessments underpinning this work. Specific concerns can be raised with us directly so that we may address questions or provide additional information welborne@bucklanddevelopment.com
